Kapaemahu

♡♡ Kumu Hina discusses Kapaemahu at #ALAAC23 ♡♡

What an honor to attend the Stonewall Book Awards presentation and hear from so many fabulous authors during the ALA Annual Conference. One title that stood out for me was Kapaemahu by Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu, Dean Hamer, and Joe Wilson, illustrated by Daniel Sousa (Kokila, an imprint of Penguin Random House). Kapaemahu tells the story of four large stones found on Waikiki beach in Honolulu. The stones were placed there as a monument for mahu – individuals of dual male and female spirit who brought healing arts to Hawaii. Learn more about this beautiful story here.
